After the sensational success of his 2018 thriller, Balloon (orig. Ballon), to date raking in over € 7 million (US$ 8 million) in German box office alone and with numerous international releases and festival screenings, acclaimed German filmmaker, Michael Bully Herbig has announced his next feature film: inspired once again by true events, he will tell the story of a young female soldier, who, after becoming victim of a sexual assault, takes up the fight for truth and justice against all odds. Michael Bully Herbig is aware of the relevance of this story: “This is very sensitive subject-matter. I hope to create a movie that will touch audiences and stir emotions.”
The director was able to win fellow filmmaker, Feo Aladag to write the screenplay for this, so far untitled project. The Austrian-born, internationally acclaimed producer, screenwriter and director won the German Film Award in 2010 for her feature film When we Leave (orig. Die Fremde). “This is the first time I am writing a screenplay for a movie, that I am not directing myself. An adventure, of course. But one that is grounded on mutual respect and trust.”
The team is supported by Cologne-based author and TV journalist, Nicole Rosenbach, who recently devoted a riveting television documentary to the assaulted soldier’s story.
The female lead role of the young soldier will be played by Munich-born actress, Rosalie Thomass, who won the German Screen Actors Award in 2018 for her performance in the feature film The Unheard Woman (orig.Eine unerhörte Frau). Friedrich Mücke is confirmed to take on the male lead. This marks the actor’s second collaboration with director Michael Bully Herbig, after starring in Balloon.
Herbig, one of Germany’s most successful filmmakers, will once again take the helm as director and producer. Hisown herbX film is producing in co-production with STUDIOCANAL Film and SevenPictures Film. STUDIOCANAL is also responsible for distribution and world sales. Filming is expected to take place in 2020.
